Basic Requirements

  • Native proficiency in the teaching language with native accent
  • English language profiency (operational language for daily interactions with the Berlitz team)
  • Minimum 4-year university degree (B.A., BS.c or higher) from a reputable University
  • Able to travel and teach at various locations around Bangkok as needed
  • Willingness to abide by teaching standards set by the company
  • Have previous experience in a professional work environment and business acumen
  • Open attitude towards other cultures
  • Willingness and abiltiy to teach all Berlitz customers (adults, kids, teens, individuals, groups)
  • Minimum availability of 35 hours a week

Training & Development

  • IQP - Instructor Qualification Program (Training)
  • Typically 7 - 10 days (depending on the number of instructor candidates
  • Number of candidates / trainees varies from 2 - 8.
  • IQP sessions run several times throughout the year (varies depending on Berlitz need for instructors and number of applicants). For details please speak with the Manager of Instruction at the 1st interview
  • Blended training - online self-study modules and live training with trainer (online and/or face to face)
  • Paid training - 4500 THB
  • IQP is a "Qualification" program - candidates must successfully complete the entire program to be hired
  • Following the successfully completion of the IQP, instructors will receive their personal Berlitz tablet to use for teaching.  All Berlitz materials are digital.
  • Regular lesson observations and feedback sessions to improve lesson delivery and quality
  • Renumeration
  • Berlitz Thailand instructors work on a "per-lesson" basis - Lessons are 40 minutes
  • Monthly number of lessons taught will vary (monthly salary with vary)
  • Instructors are required to be available to work a minimum of 35 hours per week however the number of lessons assigned will vary
  • Starting rate for new instructors for a 40 minute lessons = 250 THB
  • Annual increases in instructor rates are possible based on high performance
  • There is no miminum guarantee of lessons per month
  • Typical monthly instructor salary - High season (May - Oct) = 50,000 THB / Low season (Nov - Apr) = 25,000 THB
  • Salary is paid monthly on the 5th of the next month by direct deposit to Bangkok Bank (instructors candidates will need to open up a Bangkok Bank account - during the IQP training, Berlitz will help with the details)
  • Standard Thailand income tax is applicable to all instructor salaries.  Annual income tax in Thailand is progressive.  0-150,000 THB = Exempt / 150,000 - 300,000 = 5% / 300,000 - 500,000 = 10%, etc. These may change at any time based on the Thai government. Income tax is automatically deducted in the monthly salary payments for all Berlitz Thailand employees.

Visa / Work Permit / Teaching License

  • Instructor candidates must enter Thailand on a 60-day visitor visa (need to apply for this visa at the Thai embassy / consulate outside of Thailand). A standard 30 day visitor visa or visa-on-arrival is not acceptable for the visa conversion from visitor visa to work visa by Thai Immigration)
  • Total time to apply and process the Visa, Work Permit and Teaching license is 6 to 8 weeks
  • When the candidate arrives in Thailand, IQP training can start right away and legally instructors can start working right after completing the IQP while the Visa, Work Permit and Teaching License is in the application process.
  • Visa:  Non-Imm B (annual visa). Berlitz will help with the application process however the instructor must pay for it themselves. Currently 2000 THB per year.
  • Work Permit (annual permit). Berlitz will process and pay for this permit
  • Teaching License (annual license). Berlitz will process and pay for this license.
  • Visa, Work Permit, Teaching License will be renewed annually based on instructor performance throughout the year.
  • Instructor candidate needs to have a physical version of their university degree with them in Thailand for the application process of the Visa, Work Permit and Teaching License.
  • There are additional steps to complete for the above processes (such as acquiring documents from home country Embassies, police checks, foreign affairs documents, etc) - these will be discussed in more detail with each candidate personally during the IQP training.

Recruitment Process

  • 1.  Applicant applies through our website, filling in all information and uploading their resume/CV
  • 2.  Applicants will receive a questionnaire via email and should complete it thoroughly and promptly, emailing it back to Berlitz.
  • 3.  Applicants who match Berlitz requirements will be invited for a 1st interview with the Manager of Instruction (either online or face-to-face).
  • 4.  If the applicant passes the 1st interview, they will be invited for a 2nd interview again with the Manager of Instruction and the Country Manager (either online to face-to-face).
  • 5.  If the applicant passes the 2nd intreview, they will be invited for IQP (Instructor Qualification Program) training.
  • 6. If the candidate successfully completes the IQP (7-10 days), they can begin teaching right away.
  • 7. Visa, Work Permit, Teaching License, Bank Account, etc will all begin following the successful IQP.  Candidate instructor must be living in Bangkok at this time (home address is needed for all applications).
